Even after only one round, the skills of all the age groups in the Lithgow junior girls hockey competition has improved immeasurably.
Results from last week’s round are:
UNDER 9
Zig Zag White defeated Workies Gold 7-1 in a great match by the two young teams.
For Workies, Kellsey Charlton showed great attack throughout with Teghan Barber strong in defence.
The Zig Zag girls played well together, with Hayley Robson scoring three goals, Sophie Foley two and Erin Rainsford and Lacey Egan one each.
Kiara Griffiths, Sophie Foley and Ella Brookings showed great skills in their defensive play and the youngest girl in the Zig Zag team, Holly Klein, had a great game.
UNDER 11
Workies Blue defeated Jays 4-0.
Goals for Workies went to Alysha Anderson (2), Keely Newham and Abigail Wilson who were also among their team’s best.
Amy Capaldi was strong in defence.
Stacey Doalman and newcomer Caitlin Pluis both had good games for Workies.
Zig Zag defeated Workies Gold 4-0, Ziggies showing some great team work for their first win this year.
Goals went to Erin Trudgett (2), Amy Dewar and Courtney Griffiths.
Morgan Stapleton was strong in defence with Brittany Selmes and Katie Dewar strong in their defensive support.
This was a great result for the young side.
This was Workies’ first time in playing on the turf and these girls are really enjoying their hockey.
Hannah Felton and Abbey Wilson both had strong all round games and good running of the ball, earning them the Video Ezy Awards for outstanding games.
Great trapping skills were shown by Georgia Owers and Shelby Roberts.
Tiarne Newham tried hard with her first game in goals.
Great attacking skills were displayed by Katie Hamment and Sarah Doonan who never stopped trying.
UNDER 13
Zig Zag Black defeated Zig Zag White 5-0.
The more experienced Blacks proved too strong for the younger Zig Zag White side, who never stopped trying.
Bree Mahoney made some great saves in the goals with Tamika Williams, Hilary Pilbeam and Erin Trudgett tackling strongly.
Casey Robson, Renee Wensemius and Melissa Wilson all had strong games for the Whites.
Workies Blue drew with Workies Gold nil-all.
This was a great effort from all the players on the grass.
For Workies Blue Jessica Dick, Tamika Bostock and Ali Langford played consistently.
Great defence was shown by Mallory Sedger and Fallon Francis-Bresac with Holly Francis and Tayla Crain leading the way in attack.
The Video Ezy Award went to Jessica Dick who showed great skills.
Workies Gold’s Fiona McDonald and Katie McGuiness played well in defence.
Renee Hunter continues to grow in strength each week, saving many attempts at goal.
New players Codie Sim-Reeson and Chloe Vanharskamp continue to improve each week.
UNDER 15
Jays drew with Zig Zag 2-all.
This was a very even contest with Amie Sharp and Alex Litchfield strong in their attacking games for Zig Zag.
Katie Dewar and Kim dean showed great support.
Bree Williams scored both goals for Zig Zag.
Jays played well in their first match up of the season.
Katrina Sutton played extremely well in the goals for her first time.
Casey Hunter and Brianna Walsh were the scorers for Jays.
Workies Gold and Workies Jets was another close match with Tenae Casey, Morgan Banning and Courtney Sammut the best on the field.
