 Warriors' mistakes were costly

Warriors' mistakes were costly

After their first up good win, Wallerawang Warriors went down to Oberon 32-12 in this week’s round of the Mid West rugby league competition.

Oberon got the jump on the Warriors and by halftime had amassed a 20-6 score line with Wallerawang’s try and goal coming from Glen Stapleton.

It was a good second half with both sides throwing everything at each other.

The Warriors got back into the match with Shane Morris scoring their second try and with the Stapleton conversion, Wang had cut back Oberon’s lead to 20-12.

In the end, Oberon had too much experience scoring a further two tries to run out 32-12 winners.

Their try scorers were Jay Williams, Shane Tickle, S Hawkins, Dallas Booth and M Gibbons.

Coaches Nathan Doggett and Steve McCann, although disappointed with the final result, predicted that the side would benefit from playing the better sides in the competition and will have learned from the loss.

Silly mistakes cost the Warriors dearly, and if they can cut these out of their game, they will be hard to beat.

Steve McCann led by example and was awarded the Players’ Player award.

McCann also picked up the Dinner for Two at Natalie’s Restaurant.

McCann has been a real stalwart for the Warriors over many years and still gives 100 per cent every time he takes the field.
