Ziggies will have to bring their ‘A-game’

The Zig Zag Women’s Premier League hockey side will be hoping that they will be taking their A-game into today’s local derby when they take on Workies Panthers.

Over the past couple of weeks their form has been up and down.

Some weeks they more than match the top sides and other weeks struggle.

Last week Zig Zag lost 4-1 to Ex-services when they travelled to Orange.

Orange caught Ziggies’ napping with a goal only minutes into the match.

Kate Young levelled the scores soon after, smashing her shot into back the net after an intercept in the midfield.

Orange added a further three goals to lead 4-1 at the break.

A good talk by coach Don Wolfenden saw the young Zig Zag come back a much stronger unit and held the opposition scoreless in the second half and showed more in attack.

Wolfenden stressed on his side that they have to play at this intensity from the opening whistle if they are going to be competitive each week.

Zig Zag strikers Hayley Wolfenden and Kate Young combined well while Katie Kelly and Tiarne Shepheard were strong in the midfield.

Goalie Jaala Croucher again played extremely well again earning the Club Lithgow Player of the Match.

Croucher has been one of the success stories for the club since coming over from the Workies Panthers.

Following their match against Ex-Services, Zig Zag backed up for a practice match against the NSW Country Women’s team in Lithgow.

While the Ziggy girls went down 3-0, they showed the visiting players what the talent is like in the local competition.

While the NSW Country team boasted many players with a great array of skill, talent and speed the Ziggy team put it up to the strong team and took away plenty of positives.
