Parkes Magpies felt the full brunt of Workies Panthers first loss of the season the previous week when they were trounced 9-3 in the latest round of the Country Energy Premier League hockey competition.
Still smarting over their shock 3-2 loss, the Workies Panthers came out breathing fire and soon started to pile on the goals against a shell-shocked Parkes side.
As usual BJ Hemmy controlled the centre and fed his forwards with great balls that ultimately led to goals.
They led by only three at the break, but only for some excellent goal keeping by the Parkes’ goalie and some close shaves, the score could have been double.
First half goals were scored by Gav McKenzie and two to Mick Charlton.
Parkes were trying to hang on against the waves of attack from the Workies Panthers, but further goals to Jarrod Cameron and Josh Jones from the Lithgow side pushed the scoreboard along.
Parkes came back strongly scoring the next two goals to make the score 5-2, but were never going to cause an upset.
Workies Panthers’ other goals came from Dave Marshall, Josh Jones (his second), Travis Cameron and Mick Charlton (his third).
There was a lot to like about the Panthers’ win with the backs strong, the midfield clinical and the forwards dangerous.
The Raine and Horne Best and Fairest points went to Michael Charlton (3), Josh Jones (2) and BJ Hemmy (1).
The RGN Coach’s award went to Shaun McSorley and the Country Energy Man of the Match was Josh Jones.
There were other standouts in Dave Marshall, Matt Writer, Matt Banning and Mitch Britton in a team where all played well.
This Saturday sees the local derby between Zig Zag and the Workies Panthers.
