It has been a great year for Lithgow sporting representatives who have not only been privileged enough to be selected in their respective sporting teams, but who have then gone on to take out Australian, NSW, Country and Regional titles.
One such sportsgirl is 15 year old Megan Embleton who was selected in the Football NSW Country under 15 soccer squad that ultimately won the 2008 FFA National Youth Championships for Girls.
The tournament was held at the BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour with Megan’s team being made up of girls from all over Country NSW.
Teigan Cox captained the side while Megan also gained further honours by being named as vice captain.
Other members of the victorious side were Elise Battin, Chloe Callahan, Jenn Collingridge, Jemma Griffin, Naomi Hangan, Tenealle Hay, Lani Honecker, Stephanie Hawkins, Emma Mangion, Rachael Pearson, Tiana Phillips, Alex Roberts, Lisa Stockman and Jane Winter.
Coach of the side was Steve Roche and the manager was Kim Cuthbert.
Ten teams from all over Australia took part in the tournament, bringing together some of the best young girl football players in Australia.
After winning their way through to the final, Megan’s Country NSW side took on Football NSW Metropolitan in the big match and after a torrid affair, Megan and her teammates triumphed 2-1.
Megan attends La Salle Academy and is the daughter of Gail and Danny Embleton of Portland.
