24/07/2008 8:58:00 AM
The Portland Women’s Bowling Club annual meeting was held to elect executives and committees for 2008-2009.

The new elected positions are:

President Mary Abbott; vice presidents Joyce Williams and Annette Houlison; secretary Bev Milton; treasurer Carol Robertson; match committee Anne O’Brien, Doreen Miles, Hazel Flynn, Nancy Bannon and Hilda Handley.

Committee: Alma Risby, Elaine Toyer, Cheryl Wright, Julie Gaite and Yvonne Sharp.

Publicity officer Hazel Flynn.

Delegates: Mary Abbott, Joyce Williams and Hazel Flynn.

Patron Vi Hayman, auditor John Kearns.

Last Thursday, the final of the consistency competition was hotly contested between two players hoping to be the first winner to have their name on the new trophy formerly sponsored by Dot Flynn of the former Four Square Store at Portland.

Dot has for many years been a sponsor and supporter of the consistency competition, but unfortunately had to cease sponsorship after the business was terminated.

The club is privileged to now have a new sponsor for the event and thanks to Phil and Margaret Downey of the Portland Newsagency for their generosity as the new sponsor.

The first winners name to go on the now Portland Newsagency Consistency competition trophy is Elaine Toyer who defeated Mary Abbott 153-137.
