A win slipped through their fingers

A win slipped through their fingers

It was pleasing to see a much larger Workmens Club Senior Soccer Club playing roster than the one that travelled away to Dubbo the week before.

Playing at home, Workies were up against Orange Canobolas with three stronger sides and although they did not notch up a win, they were much more competitive.

In first grade, Workies let a win slip through their fingers after playing some good soccer throughout.

They scored first through the hard working Chris Goodman with his shot leaving the goalkeeper no chance of saving it.

It was not until into the second half that Orange found the equaliser through a marking error with the goal giving them more confidence.

They controlled the ball, putting pressure on the Workies’ defence that finally cracked through a sloppy goal to give them a 2-1 win.

Workies felt that this a win that got away, as they had plenty of chances to add to their score, but they just could not capitalise on their opportunities.

Best were Chris Goodman, Brad Morris, Andrew German and newcomer Aaron Hatch who looks like he will be a real asset.

SECOND GRADE

In a high scoring match, Workies went down to an experienced Orange combination 5-3.

Andrew Potts had a good match scoring two goals while the other came from the boot of Chris Clough.

Too many defensive mistakes and lack of talk cost them dearly, but they did show passages of good form.

Their best were Jim Lachache, Michael Johnson, Andrew Potts, Nick Hedger and also the under 18s who took their place in the side.

UNDER 18

Workies were up against a very strong and well drilled Orange side that had too many guns for them.

They made the visitors work hard for their 3-1 win with Workies’ goal coming from a pass from Brendan Dowler to the speedy Brad Morris who scored from an acute angle.

Workies’ best were Andrew German, Brad Morris, Rob Hopkins, Aaron Hatch, Chris Clough and Tim Gavin.

It was good to see 14 players available this week compared to the seven the week before at Dubbo and to those who did turn up, the club thanks them.
