Course for cricket umpires

18/05/2008 8:11:00 AM
A course on the Laws of Cricket will again be held this year at Bathurst’s All Saints College.

It will be held over four nights, these being Tuesday and Thursday nights, June 10, 12, 17 and 19.

An optional exam is set down for Wednesday, June 25.

Course presenter and State accredited trainer Stewart Greenhalgh said that members of the Bathurst Umpires Association Greg Jones and Tony Wilds would be assisting in the presentation for the first time this year.

The Bathurst Umpires have been conducting these courses for 45 years.

Test umpire Jim McMenamin held the first course in 1963, Jim Pratley followed as the second presenter who passed the baton to Ian Thomas in the mid ’70s.

Greenhalgh inherited the job 23 years ago when Thomas started his Sydney and international career and he in turn is now ready to pass on to the younger brigade after this year.

The course is open to anyone interested in the game of cricket and is aimed at junior’s coaches, players, students and future umpires.

Registrations are essential as a Law book and Training manual are given to each candidate once they register and are urged to do a bit of work before commencement of the course.

Numbers are limited on a first in basis.

The cost is $25 that includes the books and State exam.

Additional family members can register for only $10 each.
